Set Sail on the Ardelle at the Battle of Gloucester Reenactment

Set sail on the Ardelle for an immersive experience of the Battle of Gloucester reenactments. With two unique Morning and Afternoon Sailing opportunities, participants can choose to sail through the Gloucester Harbor for a front-row seat to the naval battle or to view the British attack on Gloucester from the sea.

The Morning Battle and Maritime Chase experience, held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on June 20 and 21, begins with a sail through Gloucester Harbor. As the Ardelle and schooner Lewis H. Story sail toward Cressy Beach, the ships will be pursued by the Denis Sullivan, a schooner playing the role of the British HMS Falcon. Despite the efforts of Captain Harold Burnham and the Ardelle crew, the ship will be captured by the Falcon and join the British efforts to pursue the Lewis H. Story. From their place on the Ardelle, participants will have a front-row seat to the chase, cannon fire, the ship’s capture and the British forces’ attempt to land ashore.

The Afternoon Battle and Troop Landing, held from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. on June 20 and 21, follows the battle reenactment as it transitions from sea to land. Participants will sail through Gloucester Harbor before assuming position within the reenactment fleet. From there, they will watch as the Redcoats enter Cressy Beach and attempt to burn down the town. The Ardelle offers the only ticketed opportunity to view the afternoon battle from a reenactment vessel, and participants will watch troop movements, small-boat operations and shoreline combat.

Sailing experiences are subject to weather and sea conditions, but will continue rain or shine whenever possible. If a cancellation occurs due to weather conditions, a full refund will be issued.
