Townspeople of Gloucester

The Townspeople of Gloucester are being organized by the Ladies Association of Revolutionary America (LARA). If you are interested in participating with the Townspeople of Gloucester you must register with LARA for the event. Even if you plan to attend the event with another registered unit, you must register as an individual with LARA if you’d like to participate as one of the townspeople. For more information, contact LARA at ladiesassociation18thc@gmail.com and put “Gloucester” in the subject line. Please note that LARA follows the highest authenticity standards which must be
met.

What will the Townspeople of Gloucester be doing at the event?

The Townspeople of Gloucester will be the women, children, and non-military men who respond (in first-person) to the presence of the British ship in their harbor and all that ensues during the battle reenactments which will occur twice on both Saturday and Sunday. Details will be discussed on the LARA planning page for the event.

The Townspeople of Gloucester will also be setting up third-person interpretive stations to engage with the public throughout both days of the event. These stations will present many aspects of life in a New England seaport town in the summer of 1775. Topics will range from seafaring-related activities such as net-making and salting cod to the activities typical of women in all New England towns of this era such as laundry and plain sewing.
